Great gardens of the past traditionally included fountains and waterfalls and those that did continue to preserve them. We have moved on though and less formal water features have replaced the luxuriant pools of the past.

If we are to choose an aspect in today’s garden that invariably provides a focal point, then a water feature must be the prime performer. Moving water whether it is a waterfall or a flowing fountain is a sound most people welcome in their gardens. The branch of a tree casting it’s shadow over the moving water in itself is a delight. However water features in a garden do not just serve as a focal point for your family and friends. They encourage moisture, wildlife and provide a cool retreat on a hot day.
